MBCBrasil Institute launched to accelerate the decarbonization of mobility with technical solutions and strategic action

19/09/2025

São Paulo, September 18, 2025 – At a decisive moment for the energy transition and industrial competitiveness in Brazil and worldwide, the MBCBrasil Institute has been officially launched. This independent, non-profit, and multisectoral organization is dedicated to promoting concrete solutions for the decarbonization of Brazil’s mobility sector.

With its own structure, solid governance, and comprehensive scope, the new entity has as its fundamental mission to support the feasible transition of ground transportation through all available low-carbon solutions, ensuring clean, affordable, and socially responsible mobility. “The MBCBrasil Institute was created to transform technical evidence into public policies and accelerate the adoption of sustainable technologies in the sector,” highlights José Eduardo Luzzi, Chairman of the Board of the Institute.

The new organization already brings together representatives from a significant part of the mobility sector, including Abimaq, Abiogás, Abipeças, AEA, Alcopar, Bioind ᴹᵀ, Biosul, Bosch, Bruning Tecnometal, Conarem, Copersucar, Cummins, IPT, John Deere, Mahle, SAE Brasil, Scania, SIAMIG, SIFAEG, Sindaçúcar-PE, Sindaçúcar-AL, Sindalcool-PB, Stellantis, Toyota do Brasil, TUPY-MWM, UNICA, and the Workers’ Union, and continues to expand. “This is a historic milestone for the country, in which we unite sectors with converging interests and a shared purpose: consolidating Brazil’s position as a global leader in low-carbon mobility, combating misinformation, and promoting actions that benefit the economy by creating jobs and income,” states Orlando Merluzzi, Chief Operating Officer of the Institute.

Strategic Pillars

The MBCBrasil Institute will structure its work around three strategic pillars: Feasible Decarbonization, Bioelectricity Technologies, and a Fair Energy Transition. The first aims to promote a realistic energy transition suited to Brazil’s national context, leveraging the country’s comparative advantages: the world’s cleanest and most renewable electricity matrix and a long tradition in biofuels. The second is grounded in technological neutrality, fostering the development and integrated adoption of biofuels and electrification technologies such as ethanol, biodiesel, biogas, biomethane, hydrogen, and other renewable solutions. The third is aligned with the transition to sustainable mobility that preserves industrial capacity, generates jobs, and prepares professionals for new demands through training and education.

Strategic Agenda

The Institute will engage in technical and political dialogue with entities and stakeholders in the mobility sector, articulating with public and private initiatives, promoting awareness and literacy on the subject, and proposing and supporting public policies and investments that encourage the adoption of solutions suited to Brazil’s context. “The creation of the Institute is the materialization of collective work with a technical and political approach, integrated and inclusive, committed to uniting innovation, sustainability, and industrial competitiveness. With solid structure and governance, we will invest in research and seek partnerships to accelerate the implementation of technologies that position Brazil as a global reference in low-carbon mobility,” reinforces José Eduardo Luzzi.
